They lift the nose (or tail) and put the other end on a dolly.
I managed to get my car towed 3 times freshman year before I got a parking permit. However, all three times, they started towing cars early, so the university had to eat the cost of towing a LOT of cars. Dumbasses!
Another time, someone called to have my car towed from my girlfiends apartment. The guy was a total arsehole, when I told him to drop the car, it belongs here, he would not do it. When I went to get the drop fee, he kept hooking it up, and tried to drive away! I was like "what in the fu.. are you doing? Unhook the car NOW, 'cause I have your drop fee!" He proceeded to almost shatter the S2 bumper on a concrete parking curb. I wanted to punch him in the teeth. I tried to call the towing company, but they only have an answering service, so the message I left fell on deaf ears.

If you are lucky, they'll be nice and put the other end on a dolly...otherwise, i believe the manual
says it's ok to tow at low speeds. I had my car towed here in NYC and thankfully they flatbedded it, however, they cracked my bumper in the process.

The TorSen doesn't allow for one end to be in the air, and the other on the ground...
It will damage the TorSen center diff, as it cannot split 0/100 or 100/0, has a range of 22/78 to 78/22 split F%/R%. The 1st gen quattros, with the manually locking center, could split 100/0 or 0/100, as the diff is an open type.

If they have driven wheels on the ground, it can do serious damage...
...a buddy and myself towed his old UrQ from FL to MD with the front wheels on a dolly and removed center shaft; all was well 1200 miles later.
When I had to get my CQ towed last week when the rad. blew, I made sure to mention that my car was AWD and I needed a flatbed otherwise serious damage would occur. I was very polite, but assertive about it. Initially the fellow didn't grab the k-frame, but the A-arm...."whooaaa nelly!!, no you don't!!" He was cool and mentioned that he had only been towing for 2 weeks by himself. Anyhow, point is...get a flatbed or a dolly under any driven wheels.

It is probably "left over" text from the older 1st gen cars...
Lots of the manual stuff is the same in my 5kq manual and the CQ manual. Including the towing portion! And I know that you cannot make a TorSen split 100/0 w/out braking it ;-)
