Default Transmission

I am looking at a '93 Audi S. Apparently it has a 5 speed auto tranny that is on it's way out, won't go into 4th or 5th, otherwise a nice car - (I've not been to see it, a friend is local to the vehicle and tells me it is a beautiful example, except for the tranny not reaching it's 4th & 5th gears) So my question is... Is the transmission baked? How much for a replacement(used) tranny if it is? Ballpark figures? Any insight is appreciated.

Default Audi 90 S? It ain't never gonna go into fifth gear.

If if goes into first OK I'd say it's not in limp mode. Try finding a VAG-Com to pull some codes for starters.

Default I've gone through two transmissions in my 93 90cs... both died due to 4th - 5th (final drive) slips.

If there's a cure to this problem I haven't figured it out yet... otherwise it's a great car with a POS trans!
