Ok, new poster to the audiworld forums. My 90 Coupe Quattro will not hold gears when I take torque off it. For instance, when I let off the gas or put the clutch in the transmission pops out of gear. I read someone a couple of years agoa had the same problem with his 80. Does anyone have any idea what ended up being the problem? I am pulling the tranny this weekend and would like to know where to start. Thanks
Chris

just before my tranny decided to go ka-put it started doing the same thing. i recommend when you pull it, to replace it! its not worth pulling it apart and attempting to rebuild a manual tranny, the cost of gears and syncro's from the dealer is too much... you are better off finding one with lower miles that has been tested. the tranny in my car now has less than half the miles my car has and is fine. i also reccomend you buy a clutch kit... you dont want to have to go back under there for anything clutch related once you put this tranny back..so new throw out bearing, pressure plate, and clutch disc... your set.

if so, then you prolly have a good transmission, and a linkage/detent problem like yummy said...
you more than likely dont even need to drop the trans to fix this

some transmissions you can unbolt the entire linkage (with the detent stuff) without dropping the transmission
