Trunk Hinge Vacuum Tube Set-up
Our '95 90Q is a salvage car with a '94 rear clip. It has two pieces of vacuum hose about 8-10" long X approx. 6mm OD clipped into clam-shell guides on the passenger-side trunk hinge. These connect to the long semi-rigid plastic lines. One of the tubes split at the apex. I was having trouble finding generic tubing with a thin enough wall to fit in the guides. In checking the parts catalogs I find this part described as a single "connector" which appears to be wrapped, rather than the two pieces of tubing I have. I don't mind the exorbitant price or the fact there aren't any in the US. I'm just curious as to what the original set-up was. Perhaps this spiral hose 8A586222A was part of a recall or upgrade?

Are you thinking that it is "spiral wrapped" tubing because of...
how said hose appears in your attached illustration? If so, I think you may be mis-interpreting Audi's drawing technique. It is not a very high quality drawing. One can see this same drawing "texture" used elsewhere in the drawing, I think more to represent structure; than actual surface appearance.
Even though one of my cars runs a single hose through here, and the other runs two, the hose itself appears identical. My soft vacuum hoses through the hinge point are smooth plain black in appearance.
As the soft sections are much longer than the hinge point flexing dictates, you may be able to get what you need more cheaply at the wreckers, and splice it into your set-up.

Well, curiosity (stupidity?) got the better of me. I ordered one this am for $137! The fact that there aren't any in the US says a lot about how many folks want this part.
It isn't just the spiral wrapping which looks different but the ends of the piece, which appear to plug in. I may have bought something totally useless. We'll see and report back in "two to three weeks."

OK, so 8A586222A is indeed the correct part #. The reason it's expensive is it is the complete set of tubes for the rear vacuum system.
What I really wanted is just those 2 short pieces of flexible rubber tubing but thin enough to fit inside the plastic clamshell. Hard to believe there is no part # for that.
Oh well... 8A586222A is for sale cheap. PM me.
