Default Turbo for 20valve

is it possible to put a turbo on a non turbo 20valve engine? i dont have the money to buy a 20v turbo one and was wondering if there was any way to put a turbo charger on to the engine.

thanks

Default Lots of mods, I'd guess. Lower compression and turbo pistons too.

I order to convert any non-turbo engine to turbo is either very expensive and complicated, or would not offer what you want. A bolt-on turbo kit, run very low boost levels becuase the high compression engines can't handle too much boost. There is also the concern of cooling the turbo. I believe most audi turbos are water/oil cooled, so you'd have to find a way to run that to the turbo as well. Not to mention the ducting, intercooler, manifolds, exhaust, etc. I've played with this idea myself with my 10v, and found it to be too much trouble for the gains.

Default You're better off buying a used 20valve turbo and installing that

Trying to convert an N/A motor to a turbo in your case would be extremely expensive and time consuming

Default Why so hard?

is it just more work to turbo than say my VR6turbo because parts are less available?

I know its cramped in there but a craftsman should be able to do it..

I know when 16Valve vw guys turbo cis cars they get rid of the cis first. They do digifant conversion right away.. On a 20V it would need stand alone to run good.

Have a head plate made to drop compression. Make a exhast manifold and do custom piping. I dont think it would be all that difficult.

A T3/T4 a good manifold on lowered compression (if headplate proves too difficult which it wouldnt be then get pistons which would cost allot more) stand alone, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler and allot of custom piping and the other goodies like fuel press reg, bov, and wastegate. Yeah it would be like $5000 but it would rock and have tons of potential as your modding hunger grows with car.. I imagine the tranny would be the weak link here.

BTW here is my site of my turbo project going on right now. www.swankhouse.com look at the gallery
