Default Turbo'ing a 1990 90Q20V

What turbo's are you guy's using?, what size IC can you fit up front? Where to tap for oil feed?

I think I am going to start collecting parts to start the project over the wintertime. Has anyone done a turbo setup on this car before?

Default Not a good idea on stock internals.

Stock compression is 10.1:1, only good for about 6 psi of boost, but it has been done before, I think only once. Better do get a engine/management system from a 91 200 quattro, a 20v turbo from factory.

Do a search on the forums.

10.3:1...

Should really drop the CR by a full point at least, ie 9.3:1. Either mess with the pistons, or a head gasket/spacer, or run new pistons. Then you have to worry about the cams, which are not so good for turbo duty. Injectors, ECU, etc are also not boost-friendly.

As for oil and coolant taps, look to see what the factory did, as its pretty much the easiest way ;-)

WHat is the weak part of the motor? 10.1:1 isnt terribly high, but definatly suited to a low boost app.

Getting anotehr motor/ecu/etc from another model isnt relaly cost effective, when you think that you can toss a basic intercooled turbo setup on the car for ~500 and have another 50 extra fun horses ready to play with.

Weak point is that the motor is 10.3:1, and very much not designed for turbo duty. Has the wrong injectors, wrong cams, wrong water manifold for the head, etc. Has a lot of wrongs for turbos. Trust me ;-)
