Fuel accumulator I assume? Is replacement the only option? Car is a 1988 80 quattro.

That is your fuel pressure accumulator...
I had that same problem and I ended up getting new lines from the dealer because those are special lines and due to location are very prone to rusting. I also bought a new accumulator. Its a crappy repair to have to do but once its done you'll never have to do it again.

Re: That is your fuel pressure accumulator...
OK, I had the lines replaced a few months back, figures that now the accumlator starts to leak. I tried to get a better pic to see exactly where the gas is coming from, but it looks like part of the nut cracked off where it connects to the hose. It maybe leaking from somewhere else, who knows. Man, that thing is rusted!
Does the accumulator make the buzzing sound, or is that the pump? When I started my car after work, whatever it was, made a weird and louder than normal sound, I should have known something was up.

Re: That is your fuel pressure accumulator...
I hope that the lines betweet the accumulator and filter weren't the ones you had replaced because they look like they are original. Those lines don't rust out that quickly. The accumulator doesn't make any noise the buzzing will come from the black part which is your fuel pump. If you haven't replaced the pump and its been over 120,000 miles then it might be a good idea to replace that too because they do eventually wear out.

easy solution... bypass the accumulator...
I've done it on two B3 90q's... no problems. Did it two months ago on the street car and haven't had any problems.
A couple of barbed banjo fittings, some crush washers, and some high-pressure rubber fuel line. Problem solved.

Good idea, thanks, I didn't know if I really needed it or not. What is the purpose of the accumulator, keeping the system pressurized?

Oh, I meant those plastic rubber hoses leading to and from the accumulator were the ones I had relaced. At least I think those were the ones!
