update on my eS2 project

well, last weekend i rented a hoist and pulled the engine out of the 200. i bought a stand for $60 at canadian tire, mounted the engine, and wheeled it into our second bedroom. this way i'll have the winter to work on it in a nice warm place! i have been systematically dismantling the motor for cleaning and refreshing but hit a snag when the head snapped off of one of the hex bolts on the intake manifold. it happened to be the last one of ten. the others came out no problem!
other than that, it's been very enjoyable. the engine was a new factory short block in '97 and it now only has 60k miles on it, so i'm not going to get into the internals at all, as everything should be solid.
have been collecting all the necessary parts for the conversion. (brandon hull's site is an excellent resource.) still haven't pulled the wiring harness from the donor car yet. there is so much wiring in there, i'm not exactly sure what i need and what i can leave in the car. if anyone can shed light on this, i'd appreciate it!
that's it for now. i post my progress periodically.

Re: update on my eS2 project
Any wiring touching the engine, or touching something that touched the engine, should be pulled (so, basically the motor harness and some extras).
You must have a tolerant spouse to let you use the 2nd bedroom for an engine re-freshening!
Check the turbo for excess play while its easy to get to. Looks like your engine was well taken care of...

very tolerant indeed!
she's very supportive of my interests!
as for the turbo, it has almost no play at all and spins freely. the engine is original and unmodified. always filled with mobile 1 synth. the engine was pampered by the owner, but not so much by the dealership. the oil drain plug was left out once. hence the new factory short block in '97!

Re: Is that turbo oil cooled?
The combo braided/hard lines are oil lines. the small hard lines are water lines.
Its a K24 turbo, so it BETTER be oil/water lubed/cooled...

The other water line is hidden, and I didn't circle the 2nd oil line.

Re: very tolerant indeed!
I figure, if you are married AND have an older Audi (or more) then your spouse would HAVE to be tolerant...Makes for expensive living (having both Audis and spouses/fiancees), but I wouldn't want to be without either.
