Default Upper strut bearing R&R....MikTip?

Im about to replace the strut bearings/mounts in my 95 90q. Someone had told me i need to compress the spring before I take the strut assembly out, but I found this piece of information you had previously posted about strut removal. According to your advice, you do not need to install a spring compresser until the assembly is completely out of the car.

1. position car on suitable surface for jacking.

2. do front suspension first! ;O) (Toughest)

3. loosen upper strut nut(special tool), but do not remove!

4 jack front of car in air, support on jack stands.

5. remove steering ball-joint from upper strut steering arm.

6. disconnect front anti-sway bar link from upper strut.

7. remove brake like bracketry from upper strut assembly.

8. remove 2 large bolts holding upper(spring) strut to lower(bearing) strut assembly.

9. hand hold strut spring assembly, remove upper strut nut(engine compartment), strut will drop out of car! ;O)

10. Take strut to bench, install spring compressors, compress coil springs until they barely come off upper strut cap. Remove upper strut bearing nut(Special tool).

Install reverse of removal! ;O)

Also, I am probably going to need those "special tools" but Im not sure which ones i need. Are they something that I will have to purchas online or would i be able to find it around town?

these are the mounts that I will be installing..

just so you know that the ones I installed there were the green ones as well. hmmmmm.

the control arm bushings on both fronts were changed a month before you took over.. You must drive really hard or those bushings I got weren't good quality ones.

Having issues with the )2 sensors too?

wow!

Yeah I drive hard once in a while...the garage I took it to said they probably "should" be changed since they tend to fail quite regularly on the 90's. So there isnt any real visual evidence or movement in the bushings. I guess it wont be necessary to replace the control arm bushings unless they start causing problems later.

How long ago did you change out the strut bearings?

I would say less than a year before you got it.. And I drive pretty mild with no hard cornering. I only go fast on straight.. Are you sure nothing is lose underneath?

I personaly inspected it myself, aswell as a local audi mech. Neither one of us found anything besides the drivers side strut bearing. Everything else looks just fine. I would not be supprized if the strut mount gave out from driving up to mt baker. Those roads towards the end of the drive get nasty w/ pot holes some can be hard to avoid. Ill let you know whether changing out the mount makes the difference.
