Default V-belts blow!

My stupid alternator belt keeps squeling. I go to tighten it up and it's good for a while. Then the other day the temp dropped and it's squeling again. I've got the thing pretty tight too. Serpentine belts with automatic tentioners FTW. I joke at how the 12v is such a POS but it's got the 20v beat in this department. No doubt about it!

Default Try a bigger belt?!?

I just had the alt belt replaced in my 10v. It squealed for years and was adjusted many times. Last week when it was replaced, my mechanic told me he used a belt a size or two wider than what was called for. Claiming the bigger belt fit down in the pulley much nicer and isn't making any noise. So far it's been fine...

Default I tightened it down real good along with the p/s pump belt.

We'll see what happens...

It already fits real tight on the pulley. I wonder how he was able to fit a larger one on?

Default I wondered that too...

I think he said something about a size 13 and he used a 15?!?
I was initially worried about this, but I'll trust he experience on this one I guess.

Default The belt is probably glazed, and needs to be replaced. $10 and an hour of your time

Mine was driving me crazy last year, around this time.
