V6 MAF signal output: voltage or frequency ?

Seems if you want to use one of these after-market MAF controllers you need a voltage output to the EFI cpu.

The Apex'i seems to like the 2.8 12v maf signal just fine. Nearly positive its just a voltage, not a frequency.
