Default Valve Cover installment

I am replacing the valve cover gaskets on a 12v V6 and have a few questions. The torque for the six screws are 10nm (7Ibs)? I am using silicone on the four sharp corners. Do I need to smear oil on the gasket as well? I know it is a general rule to smear oil on gaskets but all the write-ups I see in the tech section here have no mention of this.

Thanks in advance!

Default Re: Valve Cover installment

I wouldn't really worry about torque specs on a valve cover gasket just tighten the screws. I have never put oil on valve cover gaskets when replacing them and they have always worked great.
