Default Warped Timing Belt Covers, according to my mechanic

Pieces 1, 12 and maybe 3 are causing a really loud "rubbing" thumping noise. With my engine running, I can touch covers 1 and 12 and feel them rubbing/moving. I can't reach no. 3, so I'm not sure if it's part of the problem or not. The bottom leg of part 11 is broken off and the No. 5 clip is missing. 11 is very loose also, but is not causing any sounds. HELP!! How hard is it to replace these covers, namly no. 11 as it is held in by the cam shaft pully? The sound gradually dissapears after the engine has been running for 3 or 4 minutes. It only occurs when the engine is cold. Any advice/ideas?

Thanks,

Default Re: Their "Fantastic Plastic" so..........

anythings possible!

I'd try to fiqure out exactly why their rubbing!

Could be something very simple, like their attach bolts came loose?

You "have to" remove the camshaft pulley to change #12. So your timing will need to be verified & set.

How olds your timing belt?

Default verified & set timing

What does that mean? I have the picture with the step by step directions on it that you posted. I couldn't find anything about setting the timing on that. I don't know how old my timing belt is. It's apparent that it's been changed once by someone that didn't know what they were doing (like me) :> Should I take off all of the covers but 11 and 12 and start up the engine to see if the rubbing sound goes away? Fiddling with the belt makes me nervous 'cus it's pretty crucial.

Thanks,

Basically you need to set the engine to TDC(Top Dead Center) by aligning the timing marks on the engine.

The camshafts are aligned with the special tool (7), as is the crankshaft with tool #4.

You could remove the 2 outer covers to try and see why & whats rubbing.

If your not real comfortable, take it to a mechanic.

Default Parts

Besides BLAU! and Zygmunt, where else can I get parts? All of my money seems to end up going to this university place.... I need the lowest price possible. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

THANKS!
