What exactly is involved in replacing an outer CV joint?

An easier way:
Here is a safer way to take it off.. go through the same steps as jcuaudi sent.. Instead of the bass rod and pounding, you can use a M16 thread and thread it in to press off that way, i heard the axel bolt is good enough but not sure about it.
"Pressing off outer CV joint
- Clamp drive axle in vise with jaw covers.
- Remove boot clamps.
- Push back joint boot.
- Thread in special tool 3207 (M16 thread) until CV joint is pressed off splined shaft " - Bentley
