WHat portion of the shift linkage (B3 90 20v) would cause 2nd gear to pop out?

Driving the car the past few days I am slowly getting the feeling my syncro isnt the problem with second gear popping out while driving.
When i drive, I can engage 2nd gear easily, as if there were no problems, it'll down shift in to second gear as well, again no problems. if you apply a small amount of pressure on the stick shift (holding it in gear) i can drive around on 2nd gear all day. on and off the gas, smooth feeling as well (not all vibraty or anything).
Anyone have any suggestions or insight? This seem like something internal or is there something on the external linkage that can cause this? Help is definitely appreciated!!

Mine wasnt all busted up like I have seen ones in the past, but did have an excessive amount of play (up and down, and back and forth, within the ball joint itself). I hope this fix's the problem, I will be as giddy as a school girl!
