Ok so when i start the car everything is fine i start driving and about 2-5 miles the check engine light comes on. When it comes on the car losses power and the revs dont climb like when the light is off. Someone i know said it might be the knock sensor are they right and can i replace it my self?

The first thing you need to do though is pull the codes. That'll tell you for sure.
If you do get the knock sensor cosed you may not need to replace them. It may be as simple as re-torqing them to their correct specification. If they're loose then they can give a false "knock" reading to the ECU.
You didn't say what sort of engine you have but if it's an I5 there's a pair of sensors on the the right hand side of the block roughly between cylinders 1&2 and 4&5.
