ok... i know its a little early, but i'm a rallier, so this is the point in the year when I start thinking about winter tires.
I picked up an '88 90q, and although it came with a set of snow tires (decent tire, assymetrical tread design... but the siping is worn... so they're down to the harder compound), I think i will pick up some new tires.
Last winter I drove (and rallied) on the el-cheapo canadian tire brand (rebadged dunlops i think) Nordic Wintertrac with my vw fox. These did an amazing job, and I was very pleased with their traction on snow and ice... lots of bite (except for those 2 or 3 snowbanks i went into)
So... ignoring the price aspect... cause i'm a student, which means I can't really afford these anyways... what are some opinions/recommendations?

I live in Fargo, ND. Winters are legit here.
I also have an 88 90Q. Work wonderfully on this car. I can dump the clutch on snow/ice/mixed and the car just goes
The NG motor is more than enough to stop light race the bone heads around here that run bald bias ply tires on FWD detroit rust buckets ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The stock 90Q 14" rim takes a 195/65-14 Blizzak, if i recall right, and a set of 4 set me back about $380.
Note that i haven't used other winter tires - i've heard great things about Nokians as well.

Never will find a better snow tire, period.
It snows a lot here in upstate NY. Also I go to various mountains to snow board around NY/VT so I need the best traction available.

bah! i'm in ottawa, my folks have had an a6 quattro for 5 years and never bought winters for it. i just got my coupe and i'm not planning on buying em! the quattro system is so good you don't need em for street driving in the winter...rallying is another story i'm sure. obiously winter tires on a quattro is something fierce but if you don't have the cash for em, don't worry too much about it.
that said, if you went to crappy tire and picked up another set of el cheapos, they will be better than all seasons: you pay your money and you take your chances.....
