Wheel Bearing & hub problem. Machine shop I gave the hub to says ....
#11
^^^ for the two hub&bearing issues v v v v ...are we talking about the first step of pushing or
the hub (and thus breaking the bearing), or
the second step which involves pressing out the remainder of the bearing shell from the knuckle..?
IMO these are two completely different fish. pushing just the hub out should be really easy and therefor I don't see what the issue is. But getting the rest of the bearing out can be a real bitch, which then I could see the shop(s) having trouble. Sometimes it's really useful to have a varied selection of dies that fit in different positions against that bearing shell. a 20T press is the bare minimum AFAIC, and 50T is much better. I think heat would help a bunch, especially if everything was heated while the bearing was under load from the press.
regardless I always hate having machine shops try & press out these bearings. I always get grief and they seem to bitch & complain more than usual... "frickin' Audi" sorta thing =(
