Default wheel bearing question...

Can a bad wheel bearing make a low-pitched grinding noise? Here's the deal: the noise is coming from the rear of the car - probably right rear. It varies directly with speed, and it doesn't matter whether the tranny is in gear or not. The noise gets louder if I swerve right; softer if I swerve left.

In the past, I had always thought that a wheel bearing makes a high-pitched whining noise. But can it be the source of this low-pitched grinding noise?

Thanks,
Dave

sounds like a bearing. Lift the corner and check for play in the wheel.
