who has done the AC retrofit kit?
So it seems the old freon is up around $80/pound now.
my clutch is kicking on/off so its low, maybe 2 pounds.
I think I seen the kit for about 50 bucks which is just the dryer and maybe some pag oil?
Seems it would be worth it to go with the new for the price.
from AZ...
Santech
AC Conversion Kit; For Conversion to R134A
Kit includes PAG oil, caps and seals for system. Refrigerant conversion may also require changing of mechanical parts of system not included with this kit, such as compressor, receiver drier, hose assemblies, etc. 1 kit per car.

A 94 would have came with R134a originally.
Are you sure you have R12?
I have converted my car, but didn't use any kit. Following the the TSB from Audi on the subject is your best bet. My AC is super cold now, so I disagree with R134a naysayers.
But I doubt you have R12 anyway.

100% disagree that R12 is worth it. R134a works great in a properly converted system.
But then I did the conversion on my B4 myself so I know it was done right - most shops advertising this service will cut corners, and "retrofit kits" are horribly incomplete/inadequate.
Another factor is that if you are having to refill R12, you probably have a leak. I don't like to spend $100 a pound on something to put into a system that that I know it will leak out of. To each their own.

134A is the pricey banned version, right?
As I see it you have 134R, 134A and then R12 which is the latest?
damn, I am not up on my freon varieties.

Do your research and you will learn that you already have what you need.
Your 94 already has R134a, which is the new stuff that you can get cheaply. Go get it refilled, you don't need to retrofit.

thanks, it would be nice if my bentley was not locked up
I can't transfer it onto my new computer and I am still mulling over giving them another 50 bucks or something to get a working copy.

I thought i was more recent
as in year 2000 models and up.
I guess once again this shop which I just generally asked about charging the system does not know this info.
quoted 155 labor and about 150 bucks for 2 pounds.
I'll certainly go somewhere else and call around.
