Widest tire to fit 16x7 inch rim?

I have a '93 90CS and would like to replace the original wheels with 16x7 wheels. The Tire Rack recommends 205/55 tires for the wheels I would like to get, but I'd like to go to 215 or 225. Would these be too wide for a 7-inch wheel? Thanks.

I just mounted 225/45/17 on a 17x7 and they fit perfectly.

I got 235/40 on 7" wide rim, protects from curb rash pretty well

i'd go 225/45/17 if i were you.
