won't start
bought a 95 cabrio with a lite hit to the driver headlight from an auction. no significant damage. charged battery, turns over, but won't start. mechanic believes computer, maybe security system won't allow starting. other odd things going on are, key turns trunk lock but trunk won't open. i'm thinking there is a coded key to start car, dealer tells me, not in 95.all basics have been checked,,i'm stumped...someone please help..

No all the keys even the valet will start the car, only the main key's
can unlock the trunk and glove box, if the trunk lock turns then the key is good, other wise with the valet key it won't turn.
If the security system had disabled the ignition you wouldn't be able to get the engine to turn over. I would start looking for OBD codes, maybe a crank or cam sensor?
If you put the key in the door and lock it does the security light in the center console above the radio blink, also should make a slightly funny noise when locking (the sound of the central locking system).
Also if the security system is enabled and you try to start the car it will sound the alarm, that gay sounding thing coming from the trunk. Try it, leave the windows down, lock the car and reach in and try to start it.

yeah the locking system seems to be working fine,as you said, the horn sounds when i turn the trunk key. its at my mechanics shop, he said it isn't throughing any codes. the accident slightly cracked the timing cover, i'm having him check the timing, maybe it jumped a couple of teeth?

Re: if you turn the key to the on position, but don't start the car
my mechanic said he didn't detect any codes from the computer, but he believes the computer is cutting fuel and spark

Fuel and spark can be tested at the engine
Pull spark plug wire, insert screwdriver, turn motor over and look for spark (backyard method) or a good shop will have a spark plug tool.
If the car has fuel pressure (special gauge needed), check to make sure all the injectors are firing (special attachment needed).
Finally, perform a compression test on all 6 cylinders.
An engine needs three things to run
1.) Spark
2.) Fuel
3.) Compression
