Yes it has finally happened to me, I have searched, and have narrowed it down to the MFTS? I think. I have tried bypassing the level sensor to no avail. How can I test the MFTS. My coolant gauge is sluggish in getting to temperature. I have changed the water pump, thermostat, and many hoses. (for the tune up 7K ago) The light recently came on - at first very dim - then went out - now it will delay for about 30 seconds when I start the car and stay on no matter what. What sensors should I try and where are they. BTW the car is a 1988 80 Quattro 5cyl.
(I think it could be the mfts because cold starts are not the best, and the gauge problems the fan runs normally and coolant has been topped off with no leaks)

my light was blinking for about a year until I finally got the last bit of air out of there, now it never blinks.
sensors had been replaced, along with coolant tank, still blinked.
the final cure was another air bleed from the hoses that run to the heater core.
