to cover the bases i've got a replacement plug & o-ring seal kit from my audi dealer, and sears is shipping me a drag link socket.

i haven't any idea how i'm going to "torque the plug down to proper specs" (if it becomes necessary to go back at it), because the bentley only has a simplistic drawing of the ZF pump.
there is no discussion of how to open and rebuild the pump with new seals. it indicates torque specs for the three banjo fittings, but not this plug/piston cover.
i'll do a little digging on the interwebnets to see if i can find out more about this pump, but i reckon i'll just have to go with "tight enough, but not too tight".

got curious to eddicate mice elf on what a drag link is, and stumbled upon a little write-up on this issue, saying that from the bentley for a different model, there is explanation on replacing the pump seals, and torque value for the X-plug!
37 ft lbs.
yay!
- (and found out what a 'drag link' is)
