2008 A3

For a 2008 you'll want one with the TSI engine rather than the older FSI engine. Check the engine code--avoid BPY. The TSI has a timing chain rather than a belt and has a redesigned drive for the high-pressure fuel pump. The BPY engine has problems with the tappet that drives the HPFP.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Checked out the A3. Underwhelmed... The 2.8 V6 engine in my (ancient) 2000 A4 is smoother, more powerful and definitely quieter than the 2.0T in the A3. Couldn't figure out where the engine noise came from - maybe the direct injection?

The original 2.0T as it is seems like a very good engine. Why did Audi bother changing the engine?..
