I have a 2010 A3, 130,000 miles, with a problem that is progressively worse. Symptoms are:

Get in, insert key, turn key to start and nothing. No power to dashboard, no lights on dash, no cranking at all.

At the beginning (3 years ago), I would wait for 5 minutes, and try again and the car would start up and runs fine once it starts. It would not happen again for a month.
But now, it happens every other day. I have figured out that if I disconnect the battery negative terminal for a few seconds, reconnect it, the car will start fine (as if some circuit got reset).

This is telling me:

1. Power and ground are fine
2. Starter is fine
3. A board may have a bad circuitry and is hanging up until power is cut, and reset, but which board and where?
4. A relay maybe bad .... but which one?

Has anyone else had this same or similar issue and what is the fix?

Have any update on this?
Been getting battery jumped a lot, eventually got a new battery, but problem appears after 6 months.
Planning on having alternator checked.
After that - not sure what is next.
