I'm hopeful that no A3 hatchback means VW will bring a 4Motion VW GTI. Since they're on the same platform, the current A3 and GTI tended to cannibalize each other. Offering only the A3 sedan may create "room" for a higher-spec GTI.

That 'higher-spec GTI' is called the Golf R. ;-)

Your answer surprises me a bit. I figured that Audi of America would give its input of what it thinks it can sell, but that the decisions would be made in Germany at the VAG corporate level (see, e.g., the posts on what Audi does with the A-3 as related to what VW will sell in the US). Or does VAG rely heavily on its overseas marketing arms for this?
