Default Re: so cant you just let way up on the throttle at the shift point?

Yes, you can. It takes a couple of days to get used to where things are going to shift though. Unlike my '88 camry (where you can essentially let up on the gas when you want it to shift), the shifts on the A3 are silky smooth with less advanced notice.

Drive the DSG in sport mode or manual mode.

DSG > SMG. Go drive one instead of reading internet reviews ;-)

Default Anybody get the very subtle rattle noise?

It happens when you let off the brakes for like a second. I can hear mine if I am at a quite place without my music on.

Default So did the CVT back in the day.

Every review was that the CVT drove silky smooth and it was the wave of the future.

But if you read the Edmunds 12 month long-term review you'll see they comment in their 3rd month about the same jerkiness I experienced. It's not noticeable right away, but only after spending a significant amount of time with the car.

And the CVT jerkiness is not just with my car. Read the A4 Cabriolet forum and you'll see that the CVT is not a favorite with those guys either.

Now I know the DSG is not a CVT, but I'm commenting about all this because according to several people here they're experiencing similar problems with their DSG. Which only proves my point that automatic tranmissions have never been Audi's forte. I wish I was wrong.

Default What are you talking about? I'm talking about 4 people here who experience the same thing.

Did you read this post?...4 people are experiencing jerking in the DSG.

I value people's opinions on AW much more than some stuffy auto editor who spends 15 minutes driving a test car.

Default I have driven both DSG as well as SMG...If you think DSG is...

Jerky then you're in for a surprise with the SMG transmissions. They are quite harsh and much more jerky. Plus I don't get any jerkiness in my A3 DSG at all..it's chipped. Go figure..I ve had it for over 5000 miles.
