3.2Q jump start problems
Been having some battery problems in my '06 3.2Q recently (not sure what drains the battery, researching), and starting it is a ROYAL pain in the ***:
- I have not found a way to move the car once the battery is dead -- you cannot move the gear selector any more
- When I hook up jumper cables, they don't seem to provide enough juice to start the car right away. I have to sit there and wait for 15-30 minutes until the battery has enough charge to crank the engine. I am not sure whether this is from the limited contact surface of the jump start terminals in the engine bay, or whether my jumper cables are too thin.
Any advice? This is extremely frustrating and feels like the engineers didn't fully think it through...

Question: why was the battery dead in the first place?
The manual does state you cannot move a DSG car by bump-starting, etc.
As for waiting to jump, it does sound like you're not getting enough juice to the battery immediately. That almost always boils down to clamps not getting enough contact, or the jumper cables not having a large enough cross-section. A lot of jumper cables sold these days are meant for basic cheapie econo-box cars. I hear about this across many car brand forums these days.
So if you haven't already, figure out why your battery is getting discharged in the first place. Then get some larger cables.

My Owner's Manual has a section entitled "Emergency release for selector lever"
In the "What do I do now?" section. You use the screwdriver to push on the lever lock. Of course, since you can't roll-start a DSG A3, it's only useful to ease loading it onto a car carrier.
