Default 7-speed DSG from VW

looks like first version of this will only handle 184 ft-lbs of torque, and no mention if/when Audis will get this.<ul><li><a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2007/112_news200712_volkswagen_seven_speed_DSG/">Click...</a></li></ul>

7-speed.... overkill? Too busy, IMHO.

I'd like 7 - I think highway gas consumption would be much better.

Default If Mercedes can match 7 speeds up with ~400 lb-ft V-8s I don't see it as a problem.

It is more like a natural progression for the DSG, in my opinion.

Default well, MBZ does it for higher top speed and fuel economy, I believe

whereas the little motors just need it to GET to speed.

but yeah, as shifting becomes quicker, the advantages or more, shorter gears really come into the picture.

Default 25 years ago cars were coming with 3 speeds and 4 was overkill

5 was nuts...

6 spds were only in super cars 10 years ago and now they are in economy cars.

its always nuts till its common place.
