8P3 (pre-facelift) front on 8P4
Don't know why I waited so long to do the research but it looks like its a go.
Audi sells a retrofit kit for the 8P3 (3 door) to update the car to a single frame grille from the later post face-lift models. That would be this look... on the sportback body.

8P4-898-029. See screen shot for the included parts... this gives you an idea of exactly what was changed and will need to be replaced with earlier parts to revert a Sportback to the original 8P A3 look.
KIT TO FIT SINGLE FRAME GRILLE ON EARLY CARS.

The lamps are the same... the fenders are the same... the lock carrier is the same... the big change was the hood and front bumper cover.
Mexico got the A3 with the 8P3 hood, bumper... it would be an 05 A3. So the parts exist down in Mexico just go
I have ETKA for the world and that includes Mexico.
There are two choices for front bumper cover...
With and without headlight washers.
8p3-807-105-gru (without)
8p3-807-105-a-gru (with)
The hood needed for early look...
8p0-823-029-b
I'll fill in the grille and other part numbers later on so stay tuned.
I like it.

The upper grille is not on the hood like the B6... so when you pop the hood it stays in place
the lowers probably pop in/out like B6. The 8P3 facia is like the 8H cabriolet for front bumper which retains the grille even when the hood is up.
I dont care what you guys think... this nose on the sportback = handsome.

I think my next Audi may very well be a black A3 sportback with an 8P3 front end. 2.0T with either gearbox so long as its just for daily driving I might survive with a FWD with suspension & brake upgrades.
The A3 is the only current Audi I really like the looks of and that sorta bothers me. I used to like nearly everything Audi had to offer. The big mouth is just too gaudy for me, my tastes are conservative thnk early 90's european sedans.
You guys are stuck with me looming in the background noise.

I figured out the difference in the hood....
if you look at the single frame grlle hood... the grille is narrow compared to the original 8P3 grille... so there is more area between the grille and the headlamps.
Check this out...
Single Frame Grille

Double Frame Grille

Different is good IMO...
The sportback was never sold with the "older" double frame bumper/grille configuration. I refuse to own a car with the big gob look. If I get an A3 I will promptly correct the appearance of the car.
