Default A3 1.8 (In Need of good reliable Turbo) Please help

Hi guys, I've been looking for a good turbo for ages, I've got a 2002 A3 1.8SE with a K&N Air filter. Please help? And I need fitting as well. Has anyone around here fitted a Turbo onto a 1.8SE?

The best thing and probably the most cost effective is to either get a new car, or get and engine transplant. The cost of a new turbo and all the things you will have to do to the engine to get it working correctly will cost you more than just buying a 1.8t engine to put in it.

Has anyone ever tried a vw 2.8 VR6 in an a3?

One of my neighbours put something big in his A3, might have been the VR6, might have been the Audi 2.8, not sure. All I know is that everything went really fast (the car, the transmission, the money). He lives somewhere else now, so I can't get the details for you.

However, a few months ago a guy with a S3 moved into the neighbourhood. His has been chipped to 270hp, and claims to have no problems with it. So if you lust for power in an A3, I'd guess chipping a 1.8T is a lot better than transplanting a non-turbo 6.

i'm having the ECU remapped on feb 14th :-)
Wasn't going to do it , but thought that it would be kewl to have a big engine in it. Ie... 2.7 V6 Bi-turbo from S4... that would be a complete beast.

Hey guys, well thanks for replying. I guess my question is sort of answerd but I can't get to grips with it because I REALLY wanted to fit a turbo. But lets say that theoretically how much would it cost me? I mean what kind of price. and I've heard a few people around this forum talk about the K04 Turbo, can someone explain what that is?

You'd prob need: the turbo, all the piping; both manifolds; throttle housing etc; intercooler; ECU changed; plus whatever else. It would also need someone who knows how to fit it. I suppose it could be up in the region of £4K depending if you bought new parts or got the from a wreak. but also would depend on whether you did the brakes too for the extra power. The Turbo I believe has larger discs & larger wheels to accommodate the large discs. I'd love one too but its too much trouble - how about NOS :-)

Default Parts from scrap yard ( But how, and from where)

One of my friends yesterday also told me to try and get it from a scrap yard. Now I've got a question. Where the hell is there a scrap yard in London or UK that'll let me go inside and pick up whatever I want, Plus what's the possibility of me actually finding a 1.8T engine in there? I mean I've never been to a scrap yard so I wouldn't know ;-).

I see someone on ebay is selling the turbo unit itself. Check out back of Autotrader for dismantlers who specialise in Audi's, most of them do mail order. Let us know how you get on. Use www.freetranslation.com if you cant speak German

Hey Khufu thanks man, I'll try looking around and hey are you from the UK?? I'm in London.

Just got another Idea, what if lets say I change my whole exhaust system including the manifolds, and get something like Kent Cams (camshafts) and..wait for it... a progressive nitrouse kit? How much would I be able to add with a Nitro kit and how much would it mess around with my engine? and can my engine even handle lets say 100bhp of Nitro? =)

I'm up in Scotland. As for Nitros, from what I have read I would stick to about a 40bhp jet to avoid any problems. If you get it chipped too then 125+10(chip)+40(NOS blast)=176bhp peak power. Getting NOS fitted may only cost about £600 or so, but if I can remember I'm sure it is pricy for the gas everytime it runs out (often)
