A3 Chipping Experiences

Quite sure this must have come up numerous times in the forum, but as I'm new...
I thought of chipping my cars in the past but always lost bottle considering warantee and insurance. Now about to move up to A3 T sport (as soon as I get a delivery date for the revised spec), it sounds like the performance gains are pretty substantial! I even read the article in Audi Driver practically recomending a re-chip!
Anyway, to those of you who have experience in this, do you even tell your insurers about the chip? If so how much difference does it make to cost?
Concerning the chip itself, what supplier do you recomend and why.
Thanks, guys.

...after all it's just a few changed bytes in the software of the ECU. My chip was re-soldered after the upgrade so there's still everything Audi original.
Insurance contracts IMHO don't cover software upgrades today (they will in the future, no doubt about that).
Things look different if the chip is replaced by a tuning chip (I've heard of manufacturers who even print "TUNINGCHIP" in fat yellow letters onto it...)
And as someone in this forum said - it's just to reduce overall fuel consume.

Definately the way to go and I seem to be getting about 40mpg out of mine .
Not sure about the insurance angle, I have always told the companies in the past and the better ones ( not the big names) covered with no extra premium although I hav e often gone for a voluntary excess of £200 + if available.
Someone on this site said somthing about up to 50 bhp extra was covered with only a minor premiun increase? Check out the previous performance posts.
