Gotta trade the '01 x5; 86k on the vehicle. Looked to Audi but the q7 is just too big, and has the worst back seat due to the third row access. An a4 avant would almost do but AoA refuses to install a trailer hitch and wire harness. An after market hitch is acceptable BUT the wire harness has to be by Audi.
So x3 by bimmer. The x3 is very nearly a 'drivers' car; much most agile then the x5. Well any comments in support ? The quality of the bimmer forums is poor; I guess the intense dudes all brought Audi's.
My a3 3.2 and MiniS still make me smile; maybe the x3 will too. I've gotta a near new set of Michelin MXV4's (235/65/17"). Anybody ever use a tire that is 0.9" taller than the original equipment ? The wheel wells appear sufficient to prevent contact.

My knee is getting bad and want to find a vehicle will higher stepping height - a SUV... I'm also considering the X3 but decide to hold out for Q5 and the Infinity EX35. Not that the X3 is a bad car but there are way too many bimmer around here and X3 looks "not nice" IMO...

I don't like the exterior/interior look of X3 either. I guess EX35 will cost less than X3 because EX35 < FX35/45 and FX35/45 < X3.
I also consider EX35 when it comes out.

surfaces to know what you are getting into.
A Subaru Legacy GT/Outback might be an option to consider. Not as tippy-tall as an SUV, but still taller than most cars. Decent interior with the right options, several engine choices, and good bang for buck.

The Acura RDX doesnt look to bad but i just read somewhere that it gets TERRIBLE mileage...and we all know that everything you read on the internet is true!!!

Agreed. Unless you NEVER are going to want a small sporty ride and are NEVER going to want to tow anything, ever. Then a small SUV might work. Horses for courses.
