I believe it was a 'feature' added to the 2.0 iPhone software. Since you had to select bluetooth output while driving to listen to your messages, Apple was concerned this was a safety issue. They are reportedly working on a different way to accomplish this and will add it back in a software update.

When I had 1.0 software on my iPhone I could listen to voicemail through BT on my A3.

The OP is talking about it not working with his Audi BT. It is not crippled by Apple; it works just fine with my Jawbone BT headphone, for example, running firmware 2.2.

Yes, and it works with my Jawbone BT headset as well, it has been crippled for vehicles however.

if it is actually a feature and they crippled it, they crippled it poorly: it still defaults to BT as the audio destination even though it's busted.

it needs to be properly fixed.
