s line thumping sound in transmission???????
my buddy has a A3 S line 3.2 quattro that has had some issues. the short story is, for some time he has has a issue with the rear end, going over bumps or around hard corners the rear end would kick out. then a few weeks ago he got a loud rumble in the front diff.

last week I swapped out the front Diff which was totally shot... then we got new issues. at speeds over 40mpg it has a chet chet chet sound from the front end and it was obvious the rear end was bad as well, tight corners you got a pop from the rear.

we think the rear end went out and was locki ng periodically which possibly destroyed the front Diff or vis versa.

I just swapped out the complete rear end and now we have 4wd and no poping around corners but still have the front end Chet chet chet sound only above 40 mph???
