A3 Side Roof Molding - Defect?

A3 Side Roof Molding - Defect?
I wanted to see if anyone else with an A3 was having the same problem as we are. I own an A3 with Moonroof and on both sides of the Moonroof there is roof molding strips. We have had the car for three (3) years and have replaced the molding strip on the right side three times. In every case the clips which hold the molding in place have come off and are replaced. We replaced it once again yesterday for the third time and once again it is detaching from the car. We are at wits end about this and our car is no longer under warranty so it is getting to be expensive. We are fighting with the local dealership to get a refund. Has anyone else experienced this and was it corrected? If so what did the dealership do to correct it? My next step is to deal directly with Audi.

I vaguely recall there being a problem or two on other cars, but never an ongoing
issue. Perhaps your dealer is not installing the part correctly? Ask the service manager to make an appointment on your behalf for the next time the zone rep visits the dealer. Bring the car and show them the problem along with documentation of when and how often this has happened.

Re: A3 Side Roof Molding - Defect?
I've had the same issue, only once so far. The car was only 3 weeks old when it happened. I think the reason for it is the Molding is held down mostly by 2 sided tape, this seemed odd to me since it also has clips. The dealer replaced the entire strip (I didn't notice it until I opened the trunk and it bent the moulding strip). I hope this won't become a common issue... crossing fingers

Mine is doing it too, held on with double sided tape sucks, had it to the dealer twice now
3400 miles and 2 months old. First time the dealer added clips, lasted a week. They are actually really pissing me off, will not call me back and have not been able to fix it..

Mine's going in Monday (MY2008, 10K miles)- service adviser called back and said there is a "recall" for this issue. Don't know if he meant a real recall, or just a service action/bulletin.
He also said the recall involved new clips - again, don't know if these are improved clips, or just a replacement.
I'll let you know if I find out anything of value.

We have to bring it to the dealer this Friday. . . . fourth time to replace since owning the car. We'll see what happens. Audi needs to address this as it's a safety issue. . . . . the first time it detached from the car - flew off my wife's car and missed the vehicle behind us by a few feet. Could have been a busted windshield and accident.
