Default One theory...

In Germany they've just released the 170hp 2.0 TDi, I suspect the states to get that instead of the 140hp version. Not sure about this also but in MSN UK car site, they were testing out the new shape Diesel Merc ML shipped straight from Europe (last year sometime). They mentioned that US diesel was different which was ment more for trucks. So they had a trailer following them with Euro Grade diesel in the test. So I wonder maybe either Audi are waiting for the correct Cetene level of diesel to be sold in states or it just has to be modified to take truck diesel lol... mmm I dunno could be totally wrong, but that's my theory.

(I'm sure I said this before in the past but a mint coupe you got, if I had the money to have an Audi collection that would be one of my classics) :-)

Default Yeah, no Euro II or III diesel here, though...

these cars can and will run on regular diesel. The problem is their efficency and longevity of the motor will suffer.

I would take any 2.0TDI.....lsat year, while visiting my folks in Belgrade, I drove a MKIV Golf with 2.0TDI, with 150hp - that thing was sweet! Also, I drove the 3.0 TDI V6 in a new A6 - just amazing!!

Thanks for the compliments...it means a lot knowing I have brought it back from being dead!

Default New diesel car models will be rare we start getting low-sulfur diesel fuel in the US

which I think is on the horizon for 2007-ish. Current US standards for diesel fuel refining allow for much higher levels of sulfur than european standards. As of a few years back, US cars have new stricter emissions requirements and the current US-grade diesel is not sufficient to meet it.
Garbage in -> garbage out
Sulfur in -> sulfur out
In the US, passenger car/light truck and commercial truck diesel is all the same grade. In europe, car diesel is different from truck diesel, not because of some engine need but because europe has lower emission standards for passenger cars than trucks. US refiners started supplying the higher quality, low-sulfur diesel a couple months after Katrina to select US regions but the entire nation won't get this stuff for another year-ish. Once we get that fuel, we should start seeing new diesel models available again in the states again. And there are a lot of sweet TDI's, with VWAG's at the top of the list.
