A3 vs A4

A3 vs A4
I'm looking into buying a new Audi. I sold by 2001 A4 1.8T a few months back. I've been reading stellar reviews for the A3 and am now wondering whether I might get more for my money with the A3. Comments?

i had a 2006 a4 quat.....
for a couple days while the a3 was in for service and couldnt wait to get my car back. not even close to the same driving experience. the a4 was auto, but even with the quat. it was light in the a$$ and fealt heavy. When i was shopping i went to audi looking at the a4 and after a quick test drive of both forgot about the a4 entirely

THAT's Sweet
It hot as hell in black. I was thinking about the mettalic silver. Do you have it in Stick or DSG? Noticed any difference? How's the sports package? Any turbo lag like the old A4s?

Re: THAT's Sweet
there's a half to 3/4 second lag from 0. once you're cruising over 30 the lag disappears.
fyi, i test drove both cars. same impression as cwash. was seriously considering the a4 but after the test drive, the choice was simple.

I have a 97 A4 Quattro 1.8t w/ a Stage III kit....
it also has the springs/struts/swaybars, etc.
Both handle equally well, but the A3 does it right out of the box. It does sit considerably higher, but my A4 is about 1-2" lower than stock.
The A3 feels very tossable, and there is some body roll.
They are VERY different cars. The A3 feels like what the VW GTIs should always feel like: Very nimble, responsive, light, agile, but with all the creature comforts and trim we all love in the Audis.
The A4 is very much of a Grand Touring car.
You are getting much more of a drivers car in the A3, IMO.
W/ stick, you can't tell you have a turbo.

A3 > A4
If I would be in the market for myself now, I would definitely go for the A3 instead of another A4. For numerous reasons. But only you can decide what you really like, so go and test them both.

start lag, hijack
Sorry to jump in, but since you've mentioned it, I noticed myself that from 0, there's a short lag in throtle response. Is this a general phenom, or something else? Anybody else have the same simptoms?
