A3 vs S3 - your knowledge sought...
I found this site today - just what I wanted, some very interesting stuff.
Its probably old hat to alot of you but without too much detail I wondered if any of you could just give me a summary of the essential differences between A3 1.8 T Sport and the S3..
I think I might be interested!!!
I started by looking at the A3 1.8 as a company car - luckily managed to u/g to the 1.8T Sport with practically all options...really needed A/C in Italy this summer as I took it down through France...havent stopped smiling so far ..but I was overtaken by an S3 and v impressed...

I compared the S3 to my A3, details in a post further down this page.
The S3 is much quicker than a 150bhp A3, as John said below, if you want to get close to S3 performance, or even equal it in the right road conditions, chip your 1.8T.

Re: A3 vs S3 - your knowledge sought...
1-if you already have an A3 1.8T best solution is to chip it - you should be able to get close to unchipped S3 performance.
2-given the recent price reduction in the UK (notwithstanding long waiting times), starting from scratch the S3 is a far better proposition for the following reasons:
a-larger turbo and twin intercoolers and upgraded engine internals means that 250hp/350nm is within reach for "only" 1100ukp. A3 1.8T would cost heaps more to get there.
b-much better spec - leather seats, CD, computer, 17inch wheels, body kit, sports suspension plus all other "S" items standard. Adding only some of these puts you way over A3 1.8Tq price.
Forgive me if I am wrong about any details specific to UK as I don't live there
