sounds like a faulty wire/circuit - hence the airbag/seatbelt circuit (they are ALL conneceted in one 'safety' circuit) is broken and the airbag system disabled.....
if you want the cheaper option go and see an auto electrics specialist.
An Audi garage will only want to replace whole components and not fix individual problems.

hiya mate
thanks fot the quick reply, i have read in a different forum, that there are 2 wires under the seat that can become loose and cause the light to appear, does anyone know which wires these are and where they are alocated and where they link to??

If you just look under the seat you'll see wires going from the floor to the seat pull the conecter apart clean the conections with contact cleaner then refit the conecter and erase the fault if you still can't erase the fault this means that you need a new air bag for the seat.

I have that occasionally in my S3, its the connector under the seat. Use contact cleaner and try to tape the wires in position.
