Hi,
I got an Alpine 9812RR head unit installed to my S3 with bose system. I had a car audio place install it, and they said the pre-outs were too powerful for the bose amp, so they used an adapter to connect the speaker outs of the head unit to the bose amp.
There is a nasty hiss, which i rekon is the fact that there are 2 amps inline? (the alpine and the bose amp)
What setup do people recommend? Shall I use the Pre-outs, or disconnect the bose amp altogether?
Thanks
Sam

Can't believe a car audio place bodged your install that badly. The Alpine HU has more power than the Bose amp, so no wonder your getting hiss.
Ideally you want to by pass the Bose amp, but you'll need to upgrade all the speakers as well and hook up the sub separately off your sub pre-out, which you're not gonna want to do.
If you use the right active speaker adapter, you can use the RCA's and do the job properly. The Alpine 9812rr does have 4v pre-outs but I know people who've used the same HU with the adapter and had no problems.

when you turn it on. Something to do with capacitors, and Audi grounding their line outs when switching modes, very annoying. Don't know if the adapter overcomes this.
