I'm wondering if anyone here has an add-on (stand-alone) MP3 CD changer installed (brand, model, impressions).
I'm not satisfied with iPod audio quality so I prefer CD's. I did a test with 192kbps MP3 songs on a CD and the same songs on an iPod, played through the same head unit. The CDs sounded better to me. I'm also not prepared to fork out over $1200 to replace the head unit for MP3 CD, bluetooth, and satellite radio capability (including the costs to restore bluetooth and steering wheel controls).
The stand-alone MP3 CD changer seems like a really good upgrade. With an average of about 100 songs per CD, that's a minimum of 600 songs on a 6 CD changer (potentially double that with a 12 CD changer). And some units have decent mini screens that display ID3 tags, along with a wireless remote.
But I've yet to find one that has RCA output--they all seem to work via RF, which I hear is not a very good solution. Anyone know of a universal unit that can be hardwired through auxiliary input?
