Almost 2qts. of that was before the 1st service, which I did right @ 5K. Oil level was a bit lower than I would have expected at delivery, and I had to add a whole qt. @ around 1500 mi. Since the 1st service, consumption seems to be dropping (I check it at least every other fillup). I haven't found any leaks, and otherwise, no issues with the car.

and i was gonna mention rotary engine cars as you did.

some E46 M3 folks have noticed "significant" oil consumption and it has been noted as "normal."

and some porsches as well.

i can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I was a little worried and annoyed that the oil light came on at about 8,500 miles. But it sounds like this is pretty common after reading a couple of postings...so I don't think it's a big issue.
