more robust than the flimsy plastic latch that came from the factory.
I don't intend to open either shade until Audi steps to the plate and engineers a workable permanent fix.

what a stinking piece of garbage.. my dealer is quoting me 1.5 days to repair even though the bulletin is now saying that only the clip needs to repair. And to think i sold my BMW to get away from this B.S. what a joke!!!!!

Same problem here - it really is a terrible design - I took mine apart and it's simply a plastic center male connector that holds the pin. It should be metal. When I bought my car, my dealer warned me about the problems with the open sky (both the pin and the graphite notch on the body side) have problems. To their credit, they said that it would be covered under warranty and admitted that Audi refused to cover it throughout 2005. They do know they have a problem...

Needed all day to do it, but what they replaced it with seems alot sturdier than the original. Only had mine for two months. One of the service managers told me they have seen them break sitting in the showroom. I'm sure AoA is very aware of the problem. Unfortunately, I have to have the head liner removed in two weeks to get hail damage repair taken care of. Oh well. That's why we pay for insurance.

I bought the plastic trim of both front & rear. Are they any pics or video on how to uninstall the ones in the car ? I know once they are out, I'll be able to install the new ones. I just need the old plastic trim out.

The front bow can be replaced through the open window panel. There's a TSB with the instructions:

The rear shade bow replacement requires dropping the headliner I believe.

My A3 has the same problem. I bought the roller blind bow (front & rear) from audiusaparts last week. They came with instructions on how to install & uninstall, but only for the front. Webasto is the maker of them for Audi. The parts are OEM. I can change the front, the back I'll have to pay somebody to change that one. Unless I find a video or pics on the net.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has replaced the bow themselves? I purchased a replacement bow that came with instructions, but they are as clear as mud to me. When they start, I can't even tell if the actions they are talking about are from the existing bow or the new one. I tried to find a video, but that has been less than fruitful. I have a 2012 A3 (8P). Any insight on how to perform the part swap or if you can point me to a video that shows the procedure would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
