Default Audi S3 shift **** help!

New member here and I have a 2018 s3 the 8v model. I brought a 8p S3 front facing shift ****. (looks pretty much exactly like the current RS3 shift ****) I Get the button out of it's lock position and jam something small like a toothpick in the bottom of the trigger once pulled out so it doesn't go back into the locked position. I then took the **** with the leather boot and put it on the plastic rod that sticks out at the very top. I put the **** and boot all the way on until it stops going down and then take the toothpick out and the bottom keeps going back into the lock position. How do I get the button/trigger to stick out like normal when put on the rod and not into its locked position. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just used some compressed air to blow the **** out, then captured it in the "out position" with a piece of masking tape. Then after I push the **** back on, I just pull the tape off.

That said, I can think that it's got to be very likely that there is some functional difference between the **** from the 8p and the 8v models. I certainly wouldn't assume they're the same unless I could confirm through Audi diagrams that they use the same part number.
