I own an audi a3TDI 2001 that has the audi concert (tape)(single din) and i am trying to upgrade it to the symphony (double din). The thing is, that the climatronic has to go down but it wont because the "front plastic plate" wont fit. I went to my audi dealer who said i'd have to buy a new smaller climatronic! anyone done this before???

The double din unit takes up the space where the climatronic sits. I investigated doing something similar with the A2. Basically, the fitment into the dashboard is different and as such needs to be a different looking unit. You are best to get a single din that does everything you need. There are some great models on the market with surounds that will suit the interrior.
Also, OEM head units can cost a lot - the same money could be spent on a swish aftermarket unit.
