back seat floor question

Here is my question, I recently was given a pair of center console storage nets and I was thinking of mounting them both in the back seat on the floor riser that supports the seat. Basicly they would be at the heals of the rear seat passengers. I know its not super useful but I though it would look cool and hold a map or something since my tiny glove box is crammed full of the owner manual and important papers.
can I drill a self tapper into that carpet/floor material or do i run the risk of piercing through the material and opening up the cabin to the drivetrain and elements?
Thanks for your help.

to black, I re riveted it on, and thought the rivets were less than totally secure. going thru the carpeting into the tunnel, I'd be wary of getting a strong hold, then, if you decide they look strange, you have many holes in the tunnel. just think it would be a little mickey mouse. but thats just imho.

I've been under my A3, but I'd fear hitting a gas line, brake line etc. If I couldn't get into the metal, I'd wonder if it would ever be secure?
