Has anyone been disappionted with the Bass response in their Bose system? I've been considering adding an enclosed subwoofer, and if I do, should I go for a passive or amplified sub? I added an active sub to my polo, which improved the sound alot!! However there's no amp in that system? Any ideas? I really don't want to spend the money just to blow something up. Thanks.

Bose specialise in getting big bass from relatively small enclosures. AFAIK the rear speakers in the Bose setup are ACTIVE i.e. have their own amplifiers.
The BOSE bass is typically beefy but woolly and indistinct and if you are in to anything other than head-banging rock or other modern genres it will annoy the s%$% out of you.
Best solution is probably to ditch the Bose rears and buy an amp and subwoofer.
But others may have cheaper solutions?
I have the Audi Concert setup which has a subwoofer in the L rear guard (A3/S3 series only). It sounds excellent, with good bass response and soundstaging (as far as is possible in a car!!)
My acronym for BOSE:
Bass
Overblown
Soundstage
Empty

If it is just bass response you are after a separate amplified sub of reasonable quality is easy to fit - however i think the biggest problem with Bose is that the front amplified speakers are poor and too small to match with the rears and you get muddy bass because it is coming from behind with no mid up front. Greg is right, the standard concert unit is way better in terms of clarity and imaging but does not have the bass response of bose. Best thing to do is get 4 channel amp, drive sub in boot and quality 5.25inch front speakers from this using the concert head unit - then fade the bose system to provide rear fill for back seat passengers. I have done this with my standard concert unit and the sound is superb - it is a little more tricky with bose as you need to ignore most of the bose stuff and start afresh but it is worth it.
