Brake Pad install DIY

I just did the front pads and rotors on my RS4 and it was pretty straightforward. My girlfriend needs pads replaced on her 06 A3 3.2Q and i feel like they shouldn't be much harder. I figure even if i need to buy a few specialized tools it will be cheaper than having the dealer or a shop do em. I've found several DIY tutorials for B7 A4's, wondering if its the same brake job? Has anyone posted any DIY's for B7 A3s. This is what i've found so far:

Also im thinking of putting Carbotech Bobcats on the front and back, i just put em on the front of my RS4 and they are great. Does anyone have any experience with them on A3s.
Lastly Im guessing i'll need to pull the rotors and have em turned. If I switch pad compounds (say to the bobcat from the OEM pad which I think is a Pagid), what will happen if i dont turn em?
Maybe a better option to go with the OEM pagids so I dont have to worry about turning em?
thanks in advance...

I ran Bobcats on and off over my last 2 A4's, and my 06'A3.
Upfront, I found Akebonos to be an all around better pad. Quiet, super clean, good bite. I'm running them now on my Subie, and will have them on my 2010 A3 shortly after it FINALLY gets here :-)
